India thrash Nepal 6-0 to become 3rd time SAFF Champions

Bala Devi scored four goals for India in the finals.

After a relatively slow start to the match, India started their goal glut by the 26th minute through Kamala Devi. From then on the hapless Nepal team wilted under Indian dominance. In the last five minutes of the first half, Bala Devi struck twice as India lead 3-0 at halftime.

Within two minutes into the second half India scored again through Romi Devi. From then on, India scored at will till the final minutes taking the tally to half a dozen goals. Bala Devi doubled her tally to four in the match by scoring in the 51st and 92nd minute of the match.

India was in Group A of the tournament along with Bangladesh, Maldives and Afghanistan. In the group matches India defeated Maldives 8-0, Bangladesh 5-1, Afghanistan 12-0. And in the semi finals they routed Sri Lanka 5-0.

India Squad Finals :

India played 5 matches, scored 36 goals and conceded one. Baladevi who has been in terrific form had earlier told the Pakistan media that her target is to score 16 goals in the tournament. In fact she did achieve her target and 16 goals is the highest tally in a single edition of the championship, since its inception in 2010.

 

National Squad for November Friendlies Announced

National Coach Wim Koevermans has announced the national squad of 21 Players for India’s two International Friendlies which are scheduled in November 2013. India first play Philippines on November 15 followed by Nepal on November 19.

 

The list is as follows:

GOALKEEPERS: Karanjit Singh (Salgaocar SC), Subhashish Roychowdhury (Dempo SC), Arindam Bhattacharya (Churchill Brothers).

DEFENDERS: Denzil Franco (Churchill Brothers), Nicolau Colaco (Salgaocar SC), Arnab Mondal (East Bengal), Aibhorlang Khongjee (Mohun Bagan), Raju Gaikwad (East Bengal), Gurjinder Kumar (Pune FC), Narayan Das (Dempo SC).

MIDFIELDERS: Mehtab Hossain (East Bengal), Lenny Rodrigues (Churchill Brothers), Lalrindika Ralte (East Bengal), Arata Izumi (Pune FC), Francis Fernandes (Salgaocar SC), Clifford Miranda (Dempo SC), CK Vineeth (United SC, Victorino (Sporting Clube de Goa).

FORWARDS: Dawson Fernandes (Sporting Clube de Goa), Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh (both Bengaluru FC).

STANDBYES: Shilton Paul, Rowilson Rodrigues, Gurwinder Singh, Shouvik Ghosh, Rocus Lamare, Malswamtulunga, Tsewang Karma, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Denson Devdas.

While C.K Vineeth marks a return to the squad, Anas Edathodika from Kerala failed to make the cut. Aiborlang Khonjee, Narayan Das and Victorino Fernandes earns their maiden call up for the national team.  Also interesting to note that IMG – Reliance contracted players – Sayed Rahim Nabi, Subrato Paul, Nirmal Chhetri and Gouramangi Singh has been omitted from the team.

India U-19 and Nepal U-19 teams in fray for Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup

Sikkim, Football,  All India Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament, NepalThe 34th edition of All India Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament will kick off in Sikkim on November 7th.

I-league side Mohammedan Sporting, Mumbai Tigers, Royal Wahingdoh, Tata Football Academy and Sikkim’s very own United Sikkim FC will take part in the tournaments.

International teams in Three Star Nepal, Manang Masangdi and U-19 Nepal national team will be in fray.

Organizers are in talks with Mohun Bagan and India U-19 National team for their participation. If Mohun Bagan and India U-19 team plays, this year’s All India Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament will be a grand feast for football fans in Sikkim.

India vs Nepal Friendly on November 19

NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation confirms another International Friendly for the Indian Senior National Team against Nepal on November 19, 2013. India would now be playing on both the FIFA dates in November 2013 as an International Friendly against Philippines had been confirmed earlier.

As per the October FIFA Rankings India are ranked at 154 while Nepal are at 165.

India and Nepal have played 14 International Matches between them with India having won 9 matches. Nepal have won 3 matches including their 2-1 victory in the 2013 SAFF Championships in Kathmandu when the two Teams last met. Two matches have ended in a draw.

India finish 3rd in the Group A of AFC U-19 Qualifiers

After completing four of their matches in group A in the AFC U-19 qualifiers held in Qatar, India managed only a solitary win against Nepal (1-0), tied the match against Turkmenistan (2-2) and conceded defeats against Uzbekistan (3-0) and Qatar (2-0).

Although tied on points with Turkmenistan, with a superior goal difference, India finished 3rd in their group.

Yesterday it was the turn of legends to go trigger happy criticizing Indian coach over the SAFF Cup debacle, AIFF Secretary is probably the lone voice who is supporting the Indian football team who lost to Afghanistan.  He even went to an extent saying that in a long time, this has been the best performance from an Indian team!
