Kerala FA announce Kerala Super League

Kerala Super League, Kerala, Football, Soccer, ISL, Style, Franchise, Kasaragode, Kannur, Wayand, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam,Kottyam, Idukki, Thriuvananthapuram, Franchise ,CMG, KolkataKerala Football Association has announced an ISL styled Kerala Super league that will start in Jan-Feb 2016 time frame in the state. KFA has also signed an 8 year contract with Kolkata based Celebrity Management Group for conducting the league. CMG was involved in the recently concluded Assam Premier League which was a great success.

A minimum of eight or twelve teams will compete in the league on home and away basis. Each teams will have a mandate to play U-23 and U-20 players in the team. There will also be a marquee player in each squad.

Former Chelsea and AC Milan player have been approached by KFA to be the brand ambassador of the tournament. KFA president was quoted in the New Indian Express saying “Talks are in advanced stage with former AC Milan and Chelsea midfielder Ruud Gullit to be the brand ambassador of KSL”

Corporates to bid for teams

Malayalam media is reporting that corporates who have a turn over of 10 cr per year or 25 crores over the last three years will be eligible for a bid. KFA is looking for teams from Kasaragode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram. KFA will also entertain more than one team from a district. Interested parties can download the bid document from KFA’s website starting from November 16th. A pre bid meeting for interested owners will be held in KFA’s office on November 22nd.

Peter Shilton to announce KSL teams:

United Nations in partnership with KFA is conducting a school football tourney in Kerala. Legendary British Goal Keeper Peter Shilton will be the chief guest for the final match of the UN @70 Trophy to be held in Kozhikode. Peter Shilton will announce the names of the franchises taking part in KSL.

MSP Delta Force emerged champions of the first season. Here are some facts and figures from the first edition of the tournament. The numbers and facts were sourced from various news reports that appeared about Malabar Premier League.

Facts and Figures
  • Earnings from ticket sales for the 1st edition of the tournament was around 7.5 lakhs. Where as the expenditure for running the league was around 75 lakhs.
  • The prize money for the 1st edition was 1 lakh and the runners-up bagged 50,000 INR. Semifinalists were rewarded with 25000 INR.
  • First edition of MPL gave opportunities for an array of players. MSP Delta Force team comprised mainly of MSP School students and other teams had many college students in their ranks too.
  • 15 matches were played in the 1st edition and 55 goals were scored.
  • 2nd edition of Malabar Premier League could see foreign players in action for teams.
  • MPL organizers are looking to get accreditation for the tournament from AIFF. If AIFF doesn’t recognize the tourney, foreigners cannot take part.
  • Second edition of MPL will also feature team from other districts in the Malabar region. First edition only featured teams from Malappuram

Malabar Premier League to kickoff on April 11

malabar, malappuram, kerala, football, soccer, league, sports, association, kottapady, stadiumWith the aim of providing a good platform for football players in Malappuram, district sports council and the district football association has joined hands to launch Malabar Premier league. The first edition of the league will kickoff on April 7 and will go on till April 30.

The logo and crest for the tournament was unveiled by minister Kunhalikutty in Malappuram yesterday. In attendance were the office bearers of district sports council and football association along with former Indian internationals Sharaf Ali, I.M Vijayan and Kurikesh Mathew.

Malabar Premier League which was conceived to provide much needed fillip for the sport in Malappuram, which is considered as the Mecca of football in Kerala, has got a nod from Kerala Football Association too.

The tournament will Kick off at the recently renovated Kottapady stadium. District Sports Council and the District Football Association will market and brand the league. Malappuram district would be divided in to eight zones and one team from each zone can participate in the league. Teams from each zone can selected players who are registered with KFA. Apart from the players from the district, teams can include players from other regions upon registering them for the tournament.

The onus of the league is provide a platform to perform for the players in the district and in-turn use the income from the league to prop up basic sports facilities in the district.

 

Kerala Announce Santosh Trophy 2014-2015 Squad

Karnataka Announce team for Santosh Trophy 2014-2015

South-Zone Santosh Trophy to Kick Off in Manjeri

Santosh Trophy, Football, South Zone, North-East Zone, East Zone, West Zone, North ZoneMore football to Malappuram this season and deservedly so. After the state inter-district, south zone national sub junior championships, Malappuram is next going to witness South Zone Santosh Trophy Championship.

69th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy  2014-15 (South Zone) will  be held at MDSC Stadium, Manjeri, Malappuram from 15th – 20th January 2015. An organizing Committee is formed with K. P. Anilkumar ,Minister for tourism as Chairman and V. M. Ummer Master MLA as General Convener. Ommen  Chandy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala will inaugurate the qualifying south zone matches by 6.30 PM on Thursday,15th of January. The inaugural match will be played between Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

Kerala Plans to Conduct the AFC Grassroots Day in a Grand Way

AFC, Grass Roots, Football, kerala, India, Indianfootball, Soccer, Thiruvananthapuram, Trivandurm, Kovalam, Kovalam FC, Idukki, Kollam, Unity Soccer, Maradu FA, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Nilambur United, Nilambur, Wayanad United, Wayanad, Ernakulam, KochiAsian Football Confederation (AFC)  is celebrating the 2nd ‘AFC Grassroots Day’ on the 15 May, 2014 . The purpose and objective of the celebration is to ensure awareness of the necessity of Grassroots activities with a vision for tomorrow with effective foundation of football.

Reports suggest that around 480 kids aged between 6 and 12 will participate in football festivals conducted across 7 centers in Kerala. In Thiruvanthapuram, the festival will be conducted in Kovalam and it is expected that Kovalam FC will be playing a major role in the festival there. Kollam District Football Academy, Alappuzha Santos FA, Unity Soccer in Idukki, Maradu FA in Ernakulam, Nilambur United FC in Malappuram, Wayanad United F.A  are the other centers that will be hosting the festival in Kerala.

Update : Two more venues will be hosting the AFC Grassroots day today in Kerala. In kozhikode, the Calicut Coaches Club along with KDFA will be conducting a football festival. It also reported that a similar fest will take place in Pathanamthitta too.

IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs : MSP High School and MES College Are New Champions From Kozhikode

IFB, Boca Juniors, Football, Soccer, Indian, Junior Champs,18th February 2014: Zamorin’s Football Ground was the host for IFB Boca Football Champs in Kozhikode as India’s latest football development project reached down south looking for India’s next Diego Maradona.

Kerala known not only for its serene beauty and culture it is also a dominant force in Indian football thanks to few of the great National level footballers hailing from the same region. Talent was evident as Kozhikode exhibited some amazing show of football skills and prowess over the last two days.

Malabar Special Police Higher Secondary School of Malapuram emerged as Champions of IFB, Boca Juniors, Football, Soccer, Indian, Junior Champs, Kozhikode, Malappuramthe school leg as they beat Farook High School in an evenly contest final match held at the Zamorin’s ground in association with Kozhikode Football Association.

MSP High School’s young goalkeeper Deepu Benny was adjudged as the Most Promising player of the School leg of Kozhikode while his team mates Jishnu Balakrishnan and Abhijit EM was selected to attend the coaching camp to be conducted by coaches from Boca Juniors of Argentina.

In the College leg of the event MES College Mampad got better of a strong NSS College IFB, Boca Juniors, Football, Soccer, Indian, Junior Champs, Malappuram, Kozhikode, MampadManjeri to claim the title of Kozhikode Champions of the IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs. Mohammed Safwein of MES College Manjeri was adjudged as the Most Promising player of the college leg.

Meanwhile Subhitlal K of Zamorin Guruvayurapan College and Harif P of MES College Mampad has been shortlisted as those talented boys from the college leg who would get a chance to attend coaching sessions by Boca Juniors coaches from Argentina.

MSP Mallapuram and MES College Mampad will now represent the football crazy city of Kozhikode in the national finals to be held later this year in Goa where they will fight against other region champions.

Mr. T Rajkumar, Business Head of IFB Industries Ltd along with Former India International from Kozhikode Mr. Premnath Philips were present to encourage the young winners by giving away the trophies and medals during the presentation ceremony.

IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs will next travel to Shillong to conduct the regional leg before starting off the National finals in Goa.

Two Kerala Girls Selected for India U-14 Football Camp

Two girls from Kerala has been selected for India U-14 Football Camp. Aparana Roy from St. Josephs School in Pulloorampara, kozhikode and M. Athira from C.B Higher Secondary School Vallikkunu, Malappuram are selected for the camp.

Aparna is also a gold medal winner in 80 Meter hurdles at the recently concluded School Atheltics meet in Ranchi. She trains with the SEPT center in Koodarinji.

However we are bit late on catching up the news. The camp has already got over in Thiruvananthapuram according to this news piece.

Kerala – 50th Inter-District Football Tournament Starts

Kerala, Football, Kerala Football Association, India, Indianfootball, Soccer, KFAThe 50th Inter-District Football Tournament commenced in Wayanad on the 24th of November.

Matches will be played in the Arappetta ground (which indeed is a picturesque one! ).

Defending champion Malappuram and last year’s runner-up Kasaragod have been given a direct entry into the quarterfinals. Malappuram will play the winners from the Kannur vs Pathanamthitta match and Kasaragod will take on the winners from the Thirvananthapuram vs Alappuzha match.
