Goa Government Approves Tax Exemption for FIFA Under-17 World Cup
Panaji:Â Goa Cabinet on Wednesday decided to grant entertainment and ticket tax exemption to U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2017, for which India has submitted its bid.
Goa has been selected by All India Football Federation (AIFF) as one of the probable venues, if India wins the bid to host the event.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, approved a proposal which will grant the games exemption from entertainment and ticketing taxation.
The proposal guarantying security for the event, if it takes place here, was also passed in the cabinet.
Cabinet sources said India has chances of winning the bid for the U-17 World Cup 2017.
The AIFF has already submitted the bid document to FIFA and written a letter to Goa Football Association (GFA) on July 16 this year, informing them about various agreements to be signed on behalf of the state.
The cabinet decision today is expected to further confirm the probability of Goa hosting few games of the event, a senior minister said.
Earlier this year, FIFA’s vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein had backed India’s bid to host the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, saying the country was crucial for the overall development of the game in the continent.
